magical season, Cal baseball headed to College World Series
The California Golden Bears (37-21) are heading to the College
World Series for the first time since 1992 after sweeping Dallas Baptist in the Santa
Clara NCAA Super Regional. As the team prepares to head to Omaha and face top-seeded Virginia
on Sunday (June 19), the coach and his players find the right words to describe a magical
season.

the Same Page maps Cal’s linguistic diversity
With a welcome video and an experiment mapping the voices of this year’s incoming class,
the On the Same Page program of the College of Letters and Science is highlighting the linguistic
diversity of UC Berkeley.

Reading List for freshmen focuses on social media
Each year, UC Berkeley’s incoming freshmen receive a summer reading list, a series of
books on a theme that can be tackled before arriving on campus. This
year’s topic is social media — where it came from, where it’s going,
and where it’s taking us.

Cosmology Prize honors “dark matter” astronomers
UC Berkeley astronomer Marc Davis will share with three other astronomers the 2011 Cosmology
Prize of The Peter and Patricia Gruber Foundation. The astronomers were honored for computer
simulations that convinced the world of the
existence of “dark matter.”
Cal-Adapt
Web site makes climate change science available to all
Extensive climate change research being conducted at California universities and research
centers is now openly
available through a public website, Cal-Adapt.org, developed at UC Berkeley and sponsored
by the California Energy Commission and the California Natural Resources Agency.
Bosch
grants $10 million for energy research
UC Berkeley will be one of five leading universities to launch Bosch Group’s new $10
million energy initiative, designed to promote research and education in the United States.
