Student-funded startup crunches election impact

Voters interested in what the November presidential election will mean for their own finances, and for those in their community and the nation as a whole, can get a clear visual picture from the latest update of the Politify website and app, created by UC Berkeley students and a big winner in last spring’s CITRIS Big Ideas contest.

Campus mourns loss of ambassador and alumnus; diplomat remembered as man of peace

U.S. Ambassador to Libya and alumnus J. Christopher Stevens, slain Tuesday night in Benghazi, epitomized the best values of UC Berkeley, and was remembered as a man of peace who always wore a big smile. A Peace Corps stint in the 1980s, after Stevens studied history at Berkeley, awoke in him a passion for the Middle East and started him on the path of a lifetime career in foreign service. Chancellor Robert Birgeneau issued a statement of condolence.

U.S. News reaffirms UC Berkeley’s top public ranking; campus also no. 1 for Teach for America recruits

UC Berkeley once again tops the chart in the latest U.S. News rankings of public national universities. Meanwhile, the campus also ranks as this year’s top contributor to the Teach for America corps, with 88 graduates starting their two-year classroom commitments at urban and rural K-12 schools this fall.

New Berkeley-Rupp Prize for trailblazing women architects

Deborah Berke, a New York City-based architect known for her design excellence and commitment to architectural innovation, is the first recipient of the College of Environmental Design’s inaugural Berkeley-Rupp Architecture Professorship and Prize.
